Lake Toho ~ Lake Tohopekaliga

West Lake Tohopekaliga (Lake Toho) in Central Florida is one of the largest natural lakes in Florida, and part of the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes. Lake Toho has a maximum depth of 15 feet and an average depth of 5 feet. This shallow water Orlando Bass fishing heaven is 13 miles long with a maximum width of 4 miles. At 22,700 acres, with a mix of aquatic vegetation including, maidencane, bulrush, lily pads, and hydrilla, Lake Toho has the area and habitat to grow trophy Florida bass.

Lake Toho near Kissimmee/St Cloud in Osceola County has gained notoriety over the years for consistently producing more trophy Bass over 10 pounds then any other lake or river in the World. A regular stop on major Professional Bass fishing tournament circuits such as ESPN Bassmaster and F.L.W Outdoors, Lake Tohopekaliga is the premier trophy bass fishing destination in Orlando as well as the rest of the country. The headwaters of the Florida Everglades Lake Toho and The Kissimmee Chain of Lakes have excellent fish and wildlife management programs which will insure a healthy eco system and trophy Bass fishing for future generations.

The headwaters of West Lake Toho is Shingle Creek which flows into Toho on the north end of the lake. Shingle Creek and its surrounding area have provided legendary trophy bass fishing on Lake Tohopekaliga.

On the south end of Lake Toho lies the S-61 Lock and Spillway. These navigation locks allow easy access to the other Florida trophy Bass fishing lakes I fish on The Kissimmee Chain including Lake Cypress, Lake Hatchineha, and Lake Kissimmee. The Kissimmee River flows south to Lake Okeechobee and feeds the Florida Everglades.

During a B.A.S.S Top 150 tournament in 2001, Lake Toho re-established it’s status as the #1 trophy Bass fishing location in the world when a competitor brought a record setting 5 fish limit of Bass to the scales that weighed an astounding 45 pounds 2 ounces. All five of these trophy bass were caught in Lake Toho on a spawning flat near Shingle Creek. This prestigious record still stands today and has been thoroughly tested since on other well known trophy bass fishing waters around the country such as Lake Amistad, Lake Falcon, Clear Lake, and The California Delta. The 2001 Bassmaster event also produced another 40 pound plus limit, 29 limits over 20 pounds, and 23 bass over 10 pounds!

In 1986 John Faircloth of Kissimmee caught the certified Lake Toho record largemouth bass. It weighed 17 pounds 12 ounces and was caught on a plastic worm in Shingle Creek. This Lake Toho record still stands today. This trophy bass was caught in the month of July confirming that big bass could be caught anytime of the year at Central Florida’s Lake Toho.

On your Orlando fishing charter on Lake Toho and The Kissimmee Chain of Lakes I will use my many years of knowledge and experience to make sure you have a memorable Central Florida fishing trip. I will show you proven techniques with artificial lures and live bait. On your Florida bass fishing guided trip you will catch bass using various artificial lures such as plastic worms, topwaters, lipless crankbaits, and jerkbaits. I also recommend live wild shiners for your Orlando fishing charter on Lake Toho. The majority of the trophy bass landed by my clients on Lake Toho are caught using live wild shiners. I always like to be prepared with both artificial lures and live wild shiners to give my clients the best chance of success in every fishing situation.

There are several boat ramps on Lake Tohopekaliga including Kissimmee Lakefront Park. It is located at 250 Lakeshore Blvd Kissimmee, FL 34741) and is the most popular and convenient place to launch. Lake Toho is only a short drive from the Orlando International Airport and Orlando area attractions such as Walt Disney World, Epcot Center, Universal Studios, Sea World, MGM, and International Drive.
